The Experiences

Within the realm of testing operations, one wants to occasionally invite in collaborators or clients in order to present or demonstrate the current activities. Kiruna stands proudly ready to complement with its unique wilderness and activities found rarely anywhere else. But the natural environment is only the beginning.

Kiruna offers both heavenly and underground experiences.

Kiruna is northern Sweden’s leading municipality within tourism. About 40% of the total number of overnight-visitors to Norrbotten have lodged in Kiruna. The majority of these are tourists, but a substantial number are here on business or to work. They all have on thing in common, at least the majority. In Kiruna one takes the opportunity to experience unique adventures.

Many listed stock-holding companies have chosen to hold their board meetings in Kiruna solely in order to be able to experience the ICEHOTEL. Exclusively for Tetrapak, en entire igloo village was constructed when the multi-national company gathered 800 people from around the world for a stay in Jukkasjärvi and Kiruna. SAAB and Volvo return regularly with clients who are given a chance to try their hand at skidpan driving together with professional rally-drivers, and are then presented with additional winter activities.

The selection is practically limitless. With help from the wide range of companies within the tourism organization Kiruna Lappland, one can experience dog-sledding, snowmobile safaris, survival courses, skiing, climbing, fishing, hunting, Saami culture – and beyond all of this a natural mountain environment offering majestic views, the velvety winter darkness and northern lights or the glowing midnight sun of the summer season.

For those visitors wanting for a more high-tech adventure, there is plenty to offer. And unique ones at that. The Esrange Launch Site offers a view into the workings of their space operations and the mining company LKAB is always standing by to guide visitors through select parts of the 400 km of mining tunnels belonging to the world’s most modern underground mine.

Although the numbers of guests here today are considerable, it is never crowded. In a municipality with a population of 23,000 spread over an area of 19,000 km2, it never will be.
